A “BROKEN HEART” IS VERY IMPORTANT IN MARRIAGE.
“Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.” (Proverbs 13:10)
“By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.” (Proverbs 22:4)
A lot of marriages have suffered and many are presently suffering all kinds of avoidable marital problems because one fundamental key is lacking: BROKENNESS.
Marriage is not for the proud and arrogant folks. It’s not a place for ego-massaging. It’s not a place for gender competition. Marriage is a place of humility.
Extremely few things kill and destroy marriage faster than pride and arrogance! Without brokenness exhibited through humility, no marriage will experience harmony. For a relationship or marriage to thrive, both lovers or spouses should be tenderhearted and humble. They should be like children at heart.
Marriage ought to be a union of two good friends or two great lovers. It’s not a place for showing off. It’s not a place for boasting. It’s not a place for career propaganda. It’s not a place for female emancipation. It’s not a place for feminism or machismo expression and chauvinism. It’s not a place for competition or rivalry. Marriage is not, nor ever should be, a war zone! It’s should be a place for friendship, partnership, happiness, love and bliss. Please, if you’re egocentric, high-minded, pompous, proud, arrogant, etc., marriage is not for you! Honestly, if you go ahead and marry, you won’t enjoy your marriage at all. Better to let God break your ego before you get into marriage!!
Marriage isn’t difficult. The challenge most of us have is that we are not brokenhearted at all or well enough! We have not let God break and mould us well enough unto His glory. Who we are will definitely reflect in our marriages – either for good or bad. Remember, marriage doesn’t thrive on God’s will alone; it also thrives on our individual lives! A godly couple will have a godly marriage. Brokened (humble) spouses are better positioned to build with God a blissful and blessed union and home. That’s the bitter truth!
Frankly speaking, a lot of relationships wouldn’t have gone sour, and lot of marriages wouldn’t have broken up, if not for the pride and arrogance of either a spouse or both spouses. Once in a while all marriages experience some marital challenges. Sometimes tension sets in between spouses. That’s where and when brokenness exhibited through humility comes to play a vital role. Humility will seek to apologize whether wronged or not, whether offended or not; will seek for conflict resolution and peace rather than escalate the problem. In marriage humility is a great power and not weakness. It’s wisdom and not foolishness. It’s maturity and not immaturity. It’s the difference between a blissful marriage and a blight-full or nightmarish one!
Today I invite every married folk and those intended for the sacred institution to come to that place of total brokenness of the heart exhibited through humility. Let the Holy Ghost work upon your heart by the instrumentality of God’s word. Pray that you may have the humble-nature mind of Christ (Philippians 2:5-7).
It is my heartfelt prayer that your relationship or marriage will not break up in Jesus name. Amen.
