If you look closely at the molten metal, you will certainly see some scaly particles on its surface. This particles drop of as the molten metal is being hammered to the desired shape. That thing that appears as scale on the surface of that red-hot metal is what is called “dross”.

What is dross? It is the scum formed on molten metals, usually by oxidation. It is the impurity separated from metals by melting. In a general term, it is something that is worthless or of low standard or quality. It is impurity, rubbish, a trash, a worthless thing, something of no useful value.

Remember that this dross was hidden inside the raw metal? It was an integral part of the raw metal. Inside of the raw metal was the desirable cutlass, as well as the undesirable dross! That is, the dross is innate or inherent in it, existing side by side the valuable expected end-product, whatever it may be. In other words, the dross was part of its natural content.   3. Egotism, pride, arrogance – being conceited; having an unhealthy sense of self-importance. Not being humble and esteeming others.
  4. Rigidity or inflexibility – being resistant to or unwilling to change even in the face of superior or better argument or point of view.
  5. Unprincipled and unstable spirit – lacking sound or honourable principles of conduct.
  6. Combative and hot-tempered spirit – having the propensity to flare up and pick up even flimsy quarrels. Being pugnacious or ill-tempered or quarrelsome.
  7. Merciless and uncompassionate attitude – Tendency to be unsympathetic, unfeeling.
  8. Perfectionist spirit – the propensity to always refuse to accept any standard short of your set gauge of perfection, not necessarily because your benchmark is the best, but because your mind is closed to any of other’s!
  9. Suspicious spirit – Disposition or tendency to mistrust others.
  10. Comparative spirit – The Bible says that those who involve themselves in this are foolish! [2Cor. 10:12]
  11. Competitive spirit – Contending with others. Wanting to out-do others.
  12. Untamed tongue or loose talking.
  13. Inhospitable and unwelcoming attitude.
  14. Critical spirit – always finding fault in another’s actions or words.
  15. Skeptical spirit – A doubting attitude. Tending not to believe or accept things but to question them.
  16. Carefree attitude – A happy-go-lucky disposition!
  17. Envy, jealousy – This is the consuming fear, suspicion, or belief that one is being or might be displaced in someone’s affections.
  18. Implacable and stubborn spirit –Being unappeasable and inflexible.
  19. Unforgiving spirit – Being callous and vindictive.
  20. Vengeful spirit – Only satisfied in paying evil for evil. An eye for eye spirit.
  21. Etc.
