Deep in the heart of everyone going into marriage relationship is great hope (or, do we call it desire?) for blessed, blissful, joyful, funfull and fulfilling marital life. Honestly, it would be an understatement to agree that that’s logical.

If married, can you remember how very thrilled and enthusiastic you were towards your wedding day? Even if you aren’t married yet, I’m sure you’ve taken note of that sort of ebullient atmosphere around your seniors, friends, cousins, etc. as they prepared for their weddings sometimes ago. That’s exactly the experienced I too had sometime in 1996!

This is a natural longing in the heart of everyone going into marriage. It’s unthinkable to imagine anyone going into marriage with expectation of the relationship ending in bickering, battering, betrayer, frustration, heart-break, disillusion, desertion, divorce, and all such marriage-discrediting conditions that have sadly become the lot of our marriage or that of others we could point fingers at.

The end that God intended every marriage to attain unto is that glorious state of “not ashamed” as exemplified in the first marriage in the Garden of Eden [Gen. 2:25]. It was a state or condition whereby the marriage had attained unto a measure of perfection; no shame, no embarrassment; only glorious bliss and satisfaction! As long as Adam and Eve navigated their home along God’s success-route, that end was obtained and sustained. That’s His intention for your own marriage too, if you will humbly follow same path.

From the onset, the purpose of God in creating the marriage institution is to “help” humanity [Gen. 2:18]. Marriage is intended and designed by God as a valuable boost to human existence and essence in this life. Marriage is a “good thing” and a “favour” immeasurable from God to man [Prov. 18:22]. Springing from marriage ought to be enhancement of destiny, hope, joy, success, comfort, confidence, honour, peace, etc. in every area of the married people’s life.

But, all these are ends-in-sight: and there’s a means that must lead to that desirable end. The one that created that end also designed the means to the end. No man gets to the end unless through the means. Only through God’s way could God’s intended end in marriage be attained. No other way.  For, instance, no man gets to heaven except through Jesus Christ! To be a part of God’s kingdom, you must be born again. There’s no short-cut herein. In the same vein, if you desire God’s great and glorious purpose in marriage, it’s expedient that you follow God’s marriage-handling manual.

The Bible is the divine library of information on how God expects us to handle our marriage (as a major part of our whole being). The Author of marriage is also the Author of its working manual. If you work by the manual, you obtained the benefits of marriage in full: otherwise, you lose gallantly!

The inglorious ends we are experiencing in our marriages these days are but deserved! Having neglected God’s part to glorious marriage, do we expect less? How can that be? We simply receive what we ask for by damning God’s success-way, in preference for the world’s. To many of us, the guiding principles whereby we run our homes have actually been carved by our culture, our fathers’ tradition, our contemporary examples, our perverse minds, etc. Yet, we want God to show His face in our homes, with His loads of benefits! How we goof!

Do you want God to be a player in your home? Do you want to have peace, joy, etc. in your marriage? I give you the panacea: go God’s way, and you hit it, period! Search this out in the Bible, and stand firm hereon. Let yourself off the shackles of the other unprofitable options, and see yourself free from all the heart-aches and heart-break. It’s a guarantee!
