WORTH MORE THAN RUBIES?

In Prov. 31:10, the Bible declares,

“Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.” [KJV]

From this verse to the end of the chapter 31 of the Book of Proverbs, the Bible gives us a dossier on the qualities and worth of a virtuous woman and wife. What a woman and wife this must be? She must be a blessing unto any man, no doubt.

Of immediate concern to us in this piece is the price of such a woman. The Bibles says, “… for her price is far above rubies”. In other words, this excellent woman and wife is more valuable than rubies of the best quality.

What is a ruby? It is a rare and valuable precious stone varying from deep crimson or purple to pale rose-red, now recognized as a variety of corundum.  

Take note of the underlined words – rare; valuable; precious. Each ruby is a rare stone; a valuable stone; a precious stone. Now, the Bible says a virtuous woman is worth more than rubies. This means that she’s worth more than one ruby. A ruby is already an invaluable pearl – rare and precious. Now we are talking of more than one – in short, of many put together! And, yet, the Bibles say that, whatever the number, all valued together, a single virtuous woman and wife is much more worthy!

Then the question arises: Sister, are you indeed a virtuous woman? Who is a virtuous woman? She’s a woman of chastity, integrity, morally upright; honourable, decent, trustworthy and respectable. Are you this describable? Are you qualified to be this regarded and esteemed? If, so, Then you are my ideal woman here!

In view of the above, beloved, let me ask you these questions; how do you really value yourself? Are you really worth more than, or less than, rubies? You know it is possible for a person not to know or appreciate his/her own worth? In that case, such a person will be going around with self-undervaluation mentality about himself/herself! Such a one will present himself/herself and will equally be esteemed by others in that discounted valuation!

The bottom-line of this biblical estimation of a virtuous woman is that she is priceless, invaluable; unbuyable by any material thing, however the worth. Do you see yourself as what any one [man] could buy with any material thing? Do you have a price tag? Are you on the counter, available to the highest bidder? If so, I’m afraid, you are unworthy of this biblical virtuous woman! You are worth less than rubies!!

The truth is that most women are so cheap and available on the counter to the highest bidder! They are out seeking for someone [men] who can afford their self-valued price. Like Esau [Gen. 25:29-34], they are willing to despise their heaven-tagged pricelessness to have the cheap price of money and materials. Such women are only after men who are able to afford their price; those that are able to show them the cash! They are mere stock-in-trade for men of material substance – rather than being of eternal tangibility! What a despite to womanhood!

A virtuous woman/wife carries no price-tag; and so is not available at any price. No amount of money and/or material things is enough to or is capable of buying her. Her consciousness of her real worth makes her to despise even the rubies of the highest value. She is only available at her heaven’s estimate – rare, valuable, precious; priceless! As only deep calls unto the deep, so is she only attracted to a man of equally eternal worthiness.

The virtuous woman sticks with her husband and “He will not need to use any unlawful means to gain his living” [Geneva Bible Note3 – Prov. 31:11] and “She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life” [Prov. 31:12, KJV]. “Her children rise up and call her blessed. Her husband also praises her” [Prov. 31:28, WEB].

Are you indeed a virtuous woman? Then consider if you are really mindful of and truly living your invaluableness and pricelessness. If not, then, the right time to re-appraise, re-orient and re-align yourself in view of your heavenly tag is now. Anything less, you lose your worth; and you count out of the annals of women of heavenly virtues!

The net interest margin, which measures the profit margin on lending, narrowed to 2.18 percent from 2.43 percent a year earlier and 2.2 percent in the second quarter of this year.
